The U.P.U.

The Universal Postal Union is a United Nations specialised institution which comprises 189 member countries. Its mission is to organise international postal services and to encourage the development of international cooperation. The Directorate is a new body which results from the institutional reforms of the Union (Seoul Conference, September 1994). Made up of 41 members (including France), this directorate supervises the Union's work between conferences. On this account, it reviews intergovernmental and regulatory matters linked to international postal activities. It adopts the Union's budget and approves the programme of activities of the Operational Postal Directorate, a body which looks after the operational aspects of international postal services.
