PRESS STATEMENT
François Fillon, Minister for Postal Services, Telecommunications and
Space takes note of the decision of the Constitutional Council with regards to
telecommunications laws.
The minister notes with satisfaction that the reforms in their entirety
relative to the change of status of France Telecom and the liberalisation of the
telecommunications sector have been confirmed.
As for the provisions relative to the control of online services, such as
those available on the Internet, that the Constitutional Council did not
consider sufficiently precise, F. Fillon recalls that he wished, in relation
with Parliament and in response to the anxiety of the professionals involved, to
clarify the framework in which these services are developed, as well as the
responsibilities of providers of access to these services. The minister takes
note of the Constitutional Council's decision and will make new proposals on
this subject, based notably on the report recently submitted to him by Mme
Falque Pierrotin.
