PRESS STATEMENT

Paris, 15 November 1995

François FILLON, Minister of Post, Telecommunications, this afternoon at the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications, set up the round table designed to define a new framework for relations between the press and La Poste (French Post Office).

Chaired by Michel BOYON, a Government adviser, this round table includes 6 representatives of the press, 3 representatives of La Poste, 3 Members of Parliament and 3 representatives of the Government.

The round table will principally examine the themes of quality of the postal service, transparency of the costs of the mandatory newspaper transport and distribution service, sharing these costs, developing contractual relations between the press and La Poste and improving the targeting of aid.

The Minister stated that the work of the round table should be completed by the end of January. Moreover, he gave his commitment that there would be no increase in tariffs before the end of negotiations, so that the next increase in tariffs would be carried out in the new structure of relations which will have been defined by then.
