The total number of subscribers to a paging service is 1 791 440 at the end of October. This represents an increase of 70 680 users, or a monthly increase of 4.1%. The number of users of a paging service was multiplied by 2.4 in one year. With the exception of August 1997, this result is the lowest recorded since November 1996.

ERMES services, with 18 720 new clients (13 410 for Tam Tam, 6 120 for Kobby), show results which are slightly better than those for September (+ 18 020), but did not repeat their performances for June and July. In October, these two services represent 26% of the overall growth in the market, and 29% of the overall figure for paging services in France.

With 51 960 new clients, the other norms do not show their growth pace of September (+ 85 320). The success of the POCSAG norm Tatoo service, completed by the alphanumeric offer Tatoo+Texte, still compensates considerably for the decline in the other services offered by FTMR (France Télécom Mobiles Radiomessagerie).
