From FranR@dragonsys.com Wed Feb 18 22:07 MET 1998 Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 16:03:07 -0500 From: Francoise Renaud To: scherer@ensmp.fr Subject: Copyrights Hello, My name is Fran#oise Renaud, and I work for a company called Dragon Systems, which develop speech recognition software (Dragon Naturally Speaking). Carole Netter told me to contact you to get the authorization to use the text which I found on her web page "MEMOIRES D"UN LOGICIEL" from an anonymous writer. Dragon NaturallySpeaking software recognizes what a person says, and prints the recognized words onto the screen or executes the recognized command. For a person to be recognized, the person must read a text (called enrollment text) for about 30 minutes, so that the models adapt to his/her speech patterns. In the American software, text from such authors as Dave Barry, Arthur Clarke, or Scott Adams have been used. It is great publicity for them. For the French software, text from Jules Verne has been used, and I was looking for additional text when I found the story of "MEMOIRES D'UN LOGICIEL" published on ClicNet web site. So far, inhouse people have enjoyed very much the story, so I would like to use it in our product. Of course, I could mention the conditions under which the text is used in the first paragraph. The decision needs to be made very soon, so if you could please let me know of your decision, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks, Fran#oise Renaud, Product Manager, French Development Team 617-796-0462 franr@dragonsys.com
