From i.rees@ntlworld.com Mon Jul 24 21:13:54 2000 From: "i.rees" Subject: Renault Meganne 1996 I collected my Renault Meganne after repair today and received a bill for £676.00. The repairers said that neither they nor local Renault dealers had met the problem before. The alternator belt became entangled with the cam belt although separated by the cam belt cover. The alternator belt shredded and parts of it became caught in the crank shaft oil seal and shredded the seal. The cam belt jumped the teeth and damaged the valves. However, when the car stopped, I called for the assistance of the RAC and the patrolman just looked at the engine and said immediately that "the belt had shredded and parts had become caught in the cam belt". Anyone else had this experience. Ivor Rees.
